ADOLESCENT KNEE INJURY

Soft-tissue and ligament injuries to the knee are becoming increasingly common in the paediatric population.  The healing potential of this population is high and therefore management usually consists of specialised bracing and activity modification.

However, there are a few conditions in which the result of delayed assessment and treatment may have long lasting effects. These conditions include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, meniscal injury, cartilage injury or fracture.

Early assessment and appropriate advice are the keys to successful management of these conditions.
