SOFT TISSUE LACERATION
Laceration of the soft tissue occasionally requires surgical intervention. The indications for this include:
-
Large lacerations
-
Contaminated lacerations
-
Suspected injury to underlying tendons, nerves or vessels
-
Laceration that penetrates a joint
What's involved?
-
The procedure involves exploration of the extent of the wound and debridement (cleaning) of any contaminated tissue
-
Any important damaged structures are repaired during the procedure
-
Often surgical management is the most reliable method to prevent subsequent infection of the laceration
-
The length of hospital stay is usually 1 night
