TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT
A total hip replacement may be recommended following a diagnosis of hip arthritis, with the aim of improving pain and function.

I recommend total hip replacement after initial treatment has failed, if hip pain is affecting sleep and quality of life and impacting on function.
What's involved?
-
The procedure involves surgical removal of the arthritis within the hip joint and replacement of the surfaces with metal. An ultra-high density polyethylene component is placed between the metal surfaces
-
Walking will begin on the day of the surgery, and an exercise program will begin the following day. The hospital stay is usually 2-3 days
-
You may benefit from post-operative physiotherapy exercise
-
Your surgical incision will be reviewed 2 weeks after surgery
